Providing Denture Repair at Our In-House Dental Lab in Fort Worth
No matter how careful you are with your dentures, you can have an accident and break them. Unfortunately, it can happen at the most inopportune moments, leaving you with gaps or even unable to chew.
While you are likely to have extra light bulbs, a spare tire, and even extra glasses, the chances are that you do not have an extra set of dentures. Luckily, the Texas Implant and Dental Center has an in-house lab offering same-day denture repair in Fort Worth and Dallas.
How Do Dentures Break?
There are typically two types of denture breakages – denture tooth breakage, teeth coming off the denture, or the denture breaking in half. Either way, the denture may be able to be repaired.
Please note: do not try to fix a cracked denture yourself. If you try to glue the denture back together and you do not get it 100% precise, then you have guaranteed that you just eliminated any chance of getting that denture repaired. We can fix broken dentures Monday – Thursday. There is no emergency denture repair available.
Why Do Dentures Break?
Your dentures can break for any number of reasons, but the leading cause is time. Over time, bone resorption or atrophy occurs, causing the supporting tissues to have a slight gap between the denture and the gums. Dentures usually require relining every 2 – 3 years. After 5 – 7 years, it is time to replace them altogether. Did you know your dentures are involved in 1,200,000 million chewing cycles every year?
Repairing Broken Dentures
Denture repairs can take about one hour if it is simple, like repairing a denture tooth. If the denture is cracked, it may take up to four hours. This is a far cry from other dentists who do not have an in-house lab – there, it may take days, even up to a week or more!
The Process
The first step is the consultation. Dr. Damon, Dr. Dupree, or Dr. Secola will evaluate if your broken denture can be fixed and, if so – how. Often we need to take a reline impression for either a reline or a rebase. Using this impression, we grind down the damaged areas and then add acrylic to repair them. After, the repaired areas have to be cured, trimmed and polished before the final cleaning. Then returned to you… fixed!
